Support for our application for ownership of 

77 Argyll Street, Lochgilphead.

 

 

We were recently contacted by Fiona Taylor who is an Advisor with the Community Ownership Support Service (COSS), part of the Development Trusts Association of Scotland (DTAS). COSS is partnering with the King's Lord Treasurer's Remembrancer (KLTR) to support their Ownerless Property Transfer Scheme (OPTS) and it was suggested that The Community Shop applied for outright ownership of the property.

 

In order for us to proceed to the application stage we must first ascertain if there is community support for us to do so and also if there is any advantage in us taking on the extra administrative work involved.

 

The aim would be for us to get the building back up to a good standard and develop the space as two flats. One x two bedroom and one x three bedroom.

The council have already agreed to take them into their low cost housing stock, which the area is badly in need of.

 

Funding is available from a variety of sources although this will take some time and effort to secure. We have been promised help with this from COSS.

 

The building, which was until recently leased by Reubens the solicitors, is presently in poor repair, both internally and externally. We do not want to see the building deteriorate further. This would be a further blight to Lochgilphead and may even result in the council issuing a Dangerous Building Notice.

 

As you may already know, The Community Shop supports local organisations and has a funding budget for this. To date we have given over £5000 to some of these organisations and we want to do more. The income we will receive from the two flats will go directly back into the community.
